Under the stars

AED hosts an annual Under the Stars dance in collaboration with Special Olympics and Best Buddies. This service event features a vibrant dance party and a variety of games and activities designed to foster bonding and an inclusive and accepting environment. Members of all of these organizations enjoy a night filled with laughter, music, and meaningful connections, embodying the community and support that AED deeply values.

Creature Conservancy

AED volunteers at a variety of organizations dedicated to environmental and wildlife efforts, but one of our main collaborations is the Creature Conservancy. Here, volunteers aid in the maintenance and upkeep of animal enclosures. Through these efforts, we can learn about the conservation efforts underway and gain specific knowledge about the animals housed there. This involvement not only serves as a space to interact with various creatures but also reinforces AED's commitment to environmental protection and community service.

Retirement homes

AED also volunteers at various retirement homes in the Ann Arbor area, including Story Point and Orchard Hill. During these visits, AED volunteers engage with residents through a range of activities such as games, storytelling, and art projects, fostering meaningful connections and brightening their days. This initiative reflects AED's commitment to service to individuals of all ages and underscores the importance of intergenerational bonds, enriching the lives of both the residents and the volunteers.

ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK

AED also plans an annual alternative spring break that is volunteering-focused in different locations each year. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore a new city, help make a positive impact on underserved communities, and form stronger connections with other AED members. In 2024, the ASB group went to Puerto Rico, where they volunteered at a pediatric hospital, planted gardens for a local school, spent time exploring the rainforests, and had a great time bonding with fellow members!
